Destiny's value to the community Destiny’s reach has always transcended the boundaries of its physical location. For the past twenty years we have worked with a diverse community of 12,000+ East Bay youth. Through our workshops, teacher trainings, and performances many more lives have been affected by Destiny.
The Raise the Roof Campaign will provide a new center that will serve as the heart of Destiny allowing us to reach over 1,000 young people (ages 3 to 18) each year.
Destiny has been an unparalleled asset to this community for 20 years.
Destiny programs are designed to foster students’ creativity. Through hard work comes achievement and success—and along the way kids develop a strong and positive sense of self. For many students it is the first time they consciously experience themselves as a creator, a leader, a supporter, and a valued participant in a positive community.
Our kids are growing up in a challenging time and Destiny teaches our youth how to manage some of the biggest challenges of growing up.
Destiny offers exceptional programs led by outstanding staff.

Destiny programs teach kids to:
- critically distinguish between emotion and reaction
- explore creative ways to de-escalate volatile situations
- address the root causes of violence they may experience in their lives
- use the arts as a vehicle for authentic and fearless expression
Everyday we see how the lives of our students are transformed in profound ways through their participation in Destiny. Help us continue to provide outstanding programs in a safe haven. Help us secure a long-term home.
How we change livesOur mission is to end isolation, prejudice and violence in the lives of young people. We believe that mitigating against the first two risk factors, will significantly decrease the third – and we have witnessed this to be true over and over again.
Early on, Destiny understood the first two essentials to making an impact on our youth: Provide a safe haven for kids – and make it easily accessible.
For the past twenty years, 12,000+ East Bay youth have benefited from Destiny Arts programs and teachings. As a community, thousands more have been impacted.
We live in a time of constrained budgets. Opportunities to access safe and stimulating after-school activities are extremely limited. But kids still need healthy, safe environments, positive role models, and creative pursuits.
Destiny Arts Center’s programs really do make an impact.
Destiny staff has documented many instances of young participants who, though initially skeptical, began to successfully use strategies they learned here—at Destiny, to improve “real-life” situations.
Our research shows that the work can be done now that will inspire kids toward long-term and effective participation in school and community. Our programs focus on developing children’s feelings of safety and self worth to improve their long-term cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.
Sometimes we see remarkable progress—kids that are transformed into strong and vocal advocates for non-violence in their communities and beyond.
- Destiny kids:
- learn to react positively and nonviolently to negative stimuli.
- feel challenged and heard
- gain needed exposure to lessons of respect for themselves and others

Kids need the kinds of programs Destiny offers. And they need them offered at the critical times—after-school, weekends and summer hours—when they are habitually exposed to violence and destructive lifestyle choices.
