Classes at Our Center

After school, weekend and summer programs for children and teens at Destiny’s North Oakland center provide skills training in dance, martial arts and performance, as well as tools for confidence, leadership and expression through our violence prevention curriculum.

At Destiny, caring adult mentors coupled with an inclusive, multicultural community, and an innovative curriculum make our programs more than something to do, more than a place to go. Destiny gives young people a way to BE.

*Showcase Friday August 11  3pm – 4pm

Created in partnership with Jessica Wolf/J.Wolf Motion – curriculum curator, program director and co-facilitator

A unique opportunity open to bodies who are curious, enthusiastic, hard-working, open-hearted and interested in hip hop dance and culture. This program is designed for those who want to deepen what they already know, develop stronger technique and begin to become acquainted with hip hop dance and culture. All while deepening embodied practices such as mindfulness, body awareness and yoga – connecting to the body, mind and spirit.

In this week-long intensive, dancers will develop foundations, skills and technique taught by local professional. Come learn the foundations of hip-hop dance: b.boying/b.girling, popping, locking, social dance and freestyle, to name a few, as a foundation to your hip-hop dance aesthetics.

Dancers must have at least one year of dance experience, be able to sustain focus and stamina in a classroom environment and engage as a dancer for five-five hours each day.

NOTE: Each day dancers will have one 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks to re-set, rejuvenate and replenish.
Phones will NOT be permitted in the room unless advised by the teacher as a tool for collecting choreography and drills for at home and after hours reviewing.
