Volunteering at Destiny Arts Center makes you a partner in the critical work to end isolation, prejudice, and violence in the lives of young people. Thank you for the valuable gifts of your time and efforts.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • We’re looking for skilled, creative, and flexible volunteers to help staff the Community Resource Room at our North Oakland center. Community Resource Room volunteers should be experienced in working with youth, and comfortable helping students with homework. Learn more and sign up here.
  • Volunteer at ILLUMINATE. The Destiny Youth Performance Companies have been hard at work co-creating a feature-length dance/theater extravaganza called Illuminate that will reach thousands of audience members at the Laney College Theater in Oakland. Help us pull it off.
  • Data entry at Destiny Arts Center offices. We need ongoing support entering data from our many surveys and evaluations in order to analyze the information, make strategic decisions and complete reports. This support job is less spicy on its face, but is absolutely critical to our work.

Volunteer Spotlight

Deborah Yaffe, our resident volunteer gardener, is a Marriage and Family Therapist and Creative Arts Therapist (and student in our Monday and Saturday adult classes!) who lives right around the corner from our North Oakland center.
Deborah in the Garden!
Deborah, pictured here with the beautiful flowers she planted, sees volunteering in the garden at Destiny as a way of celebrating Destiny’s contribution to the neighborhood and helping to ensure the outside of our building reflects all that’s growing inside. Thank you, Deborah, for your amazing work!

I can spot a Destiny Arts dancer from a mile away...they view performance as a forum for expressing the best parts of themselves.
